Before deciding on the my 1995 Nissan Maxima, I followed some simple
guidelines: price, luxury, style, and most of all, power. Another factor
that helped me decide on the Maxima is the simple and inexpensive
bolt-on aftermarket parts available for the car. After having the car
for only a few months I was ready to enhance my Maxima's looks and
upgrade the car's performance without any major fabrications that would
have any negative affect on the appearance and life of the car.
My first upgrade was to replace the stock air-intake and exhaust system.
I went with the Akimoto Funnel Ram and the Greddy cat back exhaust
system combination to give the car more room for breathability from the
air intake all the way down through to the 4" stainless steel tip. The
increase in both power and throttle response was instant and very
noticeable.
Secondly, because I found that the car pitched and rolled way too much,
I felt I needed to upgrade the suspension. I started by purchasing
Stillen's Strut Tower Brace, which helped decrease the flex in the body
and increased the response. But I still felt the car needed much more
help. I filled this order by purchasing the Tokico Struts/Shocks and the
Eibach Prokit lowering springs. I now have a car that not only handles
better but also looks better. The quality of the ride is a lot more firm
but not harsh.
Lastly, I swapped out my stock 15's with some 18" Freedom Designs and
some Pirellis P7000 SuperSport (235/40/18) which have greatly improved
the looks and performance of the car. I also managed to keep that cost
around $2,200 which was the bigger challenge. To protect and secure my
investment I have installed the Clifford Concept 20. This is one part of
my car that I hope is never put to the test.
I have put $4,000 in total upgrades into my Maxima, which I feel was
money well spent. I don't have any future plans to upgrade the car
anymore but that is because I have not seen anything worth getting yet.
